Since the advent of cinema, naturally, many adaptations of Bram Stoker’s Dracula have been made for the big screen. However, the long-awaited Last Voyage of the Demeter provides something a little more basic: Director Andre vredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) only tackles one chapter of Stoker’s book for this adaptation: old Drac’s lengthy boat trip from Transylvania to London.
This chapter is translated to the screen as a nautical survival horror story by vredal, who follows the titular commerce ship on its four-week voyage across the Aegean.
The grizzled, fatherly captain (Game of Thrones Liam Cunningham), the shady first mate (David Dastmalchian), the captain’s grandson and cabin boy Toby (C’Mon C’Mon’s Woody Norman), and a variety of other growly, beardy mid-cruise treats are gradually presented to us.
Clemens (Corey Hawkins), a knowledgeable doctor and astronomer who finds himself searching for a way to return to his native country, joins the ship on its final stop before London.

However, when one of the Demeter’s sinisterly marked containers comes loose in the course of a storm, it uncovers a mystery Romani woman named Anna (Aisling Franciosi), who was given to Drac as low-level food during his journey. After being kept out of the count’s reach by the crew, he must now slip outside at night to hunt more necks to bite on. Bring on the fear, the paranoia, and the bloodshed on the high seas.
