About The Song- Killing Me Softly

Written specifically for Lori Lieberman, “Killing Me Softly With His Song” was first released in 1972.
Lori Lieberman’s rendition of the song was played on the in-flight radio program when Roberta Flack first heard it on a flight from Los Angeles to New York City.
Roberta opened for Marvin Gaye at the Greek Theater in September 1972. Marvin suggested she sing another song after she finished the encore song she had prepared.

Roberta’s version of “Killing Me Softly” was released in January of 1973. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in February of 1973 and later for a week in March of 1973.
She won two Grammy Awards for “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Vocal Performance Female”
