Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC character Aquaman. The first DCEU movie to earn more than $1 billion globally is Aquaman by James Wan. Produced by DC Studios, the Safran Company, and Atomic Monster, and set for distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to Aquaman (2018), and the 15th and final installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The film is directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman alongside Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman.
Maoma revealed the title of the sequel in June 2021 and promised that it would expand on Aquaman’s world-building. Filming took place in the United Kingdom, Hawaii, Los Angeles, and New Jersey, with additional shooting taking place in New Zealand, starting at the end of the month and ending in January 2022.
The release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is targeted for December 20, 2023, after a number of setbacks in post-production and COVID-19 pandemic-related delays.
Movie Release Date
On December 20, 2023, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for release in the US. It was initially scheduled for release on December 16, 2022, but Warner Bros. changed that date to March 17, 2023, as a result of the epidemic’s effect on the workload of visual effects providers.
Once Warner Bros. Discovery had a chance to spread out the cost of marketing and distribution on December 25, 2023, it was moved up to December 20.

Wan provided a little additional insight into the decision to take a darker direction for the sequel in an interview from August 2021.
