Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols dies
Actress Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek is Dead. Nichelle Nichols, best remembered for her role as Lieutenant Uhura in the original Star Trek series (Cosmos Patrol), has passed away. She was 89 years old at the time.
Kyle Johnson, Nichols’ son, confirmed the news on Nichols’ Facebook page. “Friends, Fans, Colleagues, World,” it said.
I regret to inform you that a great light in the firmament that has shone for us for so many years is no longer shining for us.

My mother, Nichelle Nichols, died peacefully last night from natural causes. However, its light, like that of the newly discovered old galaxies, will be preserved for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and be inspired by. Her life was well lived, and she served as a model for all of us.
Myself and the rest of our family would appreciate your tolerance and compassion as we grieve her passing until we are able to speak more freely.
